Easter!

We had SO MUCH FUN today! Instead of the typical formal Easter, we definitely went the easy-going route! Morgan has been in the same clothes for the last three days. Avery is nuts as usual, but at least in a bunny shirt! Jacci and Troy and Krysta came over, too. And Jacci made a homemade pork tenderloin and gravy that was so so yummy! Me? I made a pre-made ham and a green bean casserole that a fairy could make! I'm a total dork!

Here is Morgan coloring her eggs with glitter and sequins!

And this is Avery being weird...

After naps, the Easter Bunny came with baskets!

Complete with an Easter Bunny!

Avery's came with a duckie! She loved it!

Not to mention the chocolate bunny!

And then we went outside to find the eggs!

But Avery was more interested in eating her chocolate!

Morgan found a whole bunch of eggs!

Avery kept eating her chocolate!

And then Avery figured out how to find some eggs...and eat them! Both kids got bobbles, too!

And at the end of the day there is lots of love...

Fun Outside, Sleepy Eyes and Goodbyes

BEAUTIFUL DAY OUTSIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean, really. How much more awesome of a day could it have been?!

Quote before I forget:
Avery: Hey! There's fish in there! That's awesome!

It was cute. I've never heard her say "awesome" unprovoked before!

Here's Morgan talking (with intense detail and inflection) to Fluttershy, a My Little Pony. They were making plans to go to the store later!

Well, Fluttershy never showed up to play, so Morgan had to settle for Avery! But that's okay! Dan set up their little outdoor house today, so we pretended to go to McD's where Morgan was "working" as a drive through window attendant. Avery and I ordered some fries and Morgan cooked us up a big feast!

That last one is of the girls eating grapes together in the house. It was really cute to watch them cooperate pretty well today. Except that time when Morgan pulled Avery off of the ATV. That didn't go over so well, especially for Avery who always gets the short end of the stick. One of these days, though, she's gonna retaliate!

We were outside all day, and Dan mowed the lawn holding Morgan for most of it! He even took her for a ride around the neighborhood on it, looping in circles, and looping around Hayden's house! Morgan loved it! Sydney chased them for over an hour, and this is what she looks like right now...

But the funniest part of the day was when I was sitting next to the koi pond and heard Morgan from her playhouse saying:

Morgan: MOMMY! I'm really really not happy at you!

Me: Why Morgan? What happened?

Morgan: You were laughing at me and I don't like that.

Me: No, Morgan, I wasn't laughing at you, I was laughing at Avery.

Morgan: NO! You laughing at me!

Me: Okay.

Morgan: I'm really really mad and I'm gonna go far far away. (Climbing on ATV)

Me: Oh yeah? Where you gonna go?

Morgan: Really really really far away!

Me: Okay have fun with that!

And she did...

Presents, Teeth, Crowns, and a Princess Beating on a Boy...and Avery's Daily Clothing Picks

Yippe! Easter's on its way and with it a fun filled box wrapped up with packing tape like it's Fort Knox. Grammy likes to torture us by covering every single square inch of her brown paper wrapped huge box 'O gifts. Not only is it taped up like some hermetically sealed tuna can that requires a military grade special ops  stainless steel contraption to open in, but once you spend an hour releasing the contents you'll find that each little gift is lovingly wrapped as well. And just for fun, let's not forget that presents are adult proofed these days and some freak finds it incredibly funny in a sick and twisted way to tie, or rather lock, toys onto their respective boxes with materials that require a small bomb detonation to release their occupant. Total time spent on task? One hour. Total fingers lost? 1/4. There was a bit of a slip up.

Once we released the Kraken, it was time to play! Little dolls and lots of Squinkies, to which Morgan exclaimed upon opening, "Oh my goodness I was wanting these!" It was cute. However, the baby sent for Avery turned into a big war since Morgan fell in love with it, so now I'm going to have to monitor that situation closely. As of this moment the baby is "hiding" in Morgan's room because, according to Morgan, Avery has enough babies!

Now on to the traumatic story (more for me than for Morgan) - her teeth. Yesterday was her first cavity fixing day. The plan was to give her nitrous oxide and fix her back two top right molars. So first she was introduced to the "elephant nose" that she'd get to wear!

Notice the bunny baby sitting next to her? Yeah, Morgan won that one!

Anyway, Morgan had a choice of yummy smells to put inside her elephant nose, and of course she chose watermelon! So they wipe that inside the nose and this is what you get...

She did really well! A little weirded out at first, but she got used to it! Then, get this, they kicked me out!!!!!!! What?!?! I couldn't hold her hand?! But apparently when moms are in the room the kids don't focus as well, which makes sense, I guess. So I sat outside the door and spied!

And once she was all gassed up she had a bunch of novocane...

The whole process took an hour, and she sat there like a good girl and even gave thumbs up when asked! So the whole right side of her mouth was "taking a nap!" and they even gave her a little sticker to wear that said so (I guess so people wouldn't look at her when we went to Target and think there was something wrong with her, bless her heart!)

How awesome is this pic?!?!?! You should have seen her trying to sip water through a straw!

After a fun filled afternoon of waiting for her teeth to wake up, Hayden came over to play. Or, rather, get  his butt kicked by a real "crowned" princess! Ha!

Poor Hayden.

And now for the exciting finale to today's fascinating blog entry. Avery was up at some horrible hour even though we put her to bed pretty late last night. And when Avery wakes up she's ready to rock 'n roll! SHE determines what she's going to wear to go outside. This is the lovely ensemble she picked today:

Yes, it's a hat (because it's cold), a long sleeve sweater dress covered by a 12 month old fleece, pants, mismatched socks, and you can't see them, but sparkly converse sneakers on her feet!
What a fashionista!

Here is one with the shoes:

So she went outside to go look for poop

And then changed shoes to go on the swings. This is how she does it...

Start here...

Lift feet and go wheeeeeee!

And then Morgan hid in the fridge....

 Fun times, fun times!

A Better Day

After the tragic loss of Wally, I have definitely struggled with my inherent responsibility in the whole thing.  I, of course, blame myself, and I think about the "what ifs" every day, both good (what if I had gone upstairs right away...what if I wasn't jean shopping....what if I told her to wait until I got there) to the bad (what if it was Avery in the tub...what if one of the girls slipped and fell into the water). These thoughts torment me still. Don't give me the predictable "It's not your fault, accidents happen, it could have been worse..."
The fact is, it sucks.

He's buried next to the fir trees by the satellite dish. How is that a meaningful life? That's what he's reduced to. A stone on top of a freshly dug mass of dirt with some random stone marking his grave. At some point we will move and the new people will look at that random rock and put it back with the rest. Forgotten. That just breaks my heart.

However, there are moments that remind me how great everything is. Like today! What a beautiful afternoon filled with sunshine and a gentle breeze (which got a little bit cold towards the end of the day!)

But there we were, outside, swinging and sliding and laughing and looking for poop and riding the ATV and picking flowers!

Here you'll see the 180 difference between my kids...

What Morgan found....

A beautiful potpourri of pebbles, carefully selected leaves, flowers, and dandi-lions! Really, each one was chosen lovingly, with empathetic precision and care. Each one delivered to me (the guardian of the cup with a lid to protect it from the wind) with deliberate impact. This cup had exactly what she wanted, when she wanted it....a layering of love!

And this is what Avery came back with...

A Tragedy. Poor Wally.

I don't even know where to begin. This really does suck. Badly.

It was a typical Tuesday afternoon. Krystle and I were hanging out in the kitchen after I got home from school, and the kids were running all over the place. They were playing with Fez and Wally - sometimes Morgan would take them in the bouncy house and sometimes Avery would chase them until they hid under the sofas. So at one point, Morgan said that she couldn't find Wally, so we quickly found Fez and put him back in the cage. We went looking for Wally, who has been known to disappear in crevices and fall asleep. We found him hiding in the shoes, so all was good. Morgan and Avery took him upstairs to Morgan's room to play, and Krystle and and I resumed our online shopping for jeans. I was torn because they were the perfect jeans and the perfect waist, but a little long. But I couldn't find a shorter pair ANYWHERE, so I just left the screen to sit and for my mind to ponder. As Krystle was getting ready to leave, Morgan announced, "Mommy, I'm gonna give Wally a bath!" To which I replied, "Yeah, Morgan, that's a great idea! He's stinky!" So she ran the water, I said bye to Krystle, went back to the island and decided to order the jeans, heard Morgan talking in the bathroom, so I figured all was okay, and then I entered all my information... and then what must have been only 3 minutes total I went up to help Morgan and the tub drain was closed. There was about 5-6 inches of water in the tub, and Wally was under the surface....

...no, this does not end well. Submerged under the water and with Morgan talking merrily, Wally had swallowed a lot of water. I grabbed him and quickly turned him upside down and so much water fell out of him. At the time he was somewhat conscious, but after the water drained from his lungs, he literally went limp. From that point on everything went so fast. Morgan screaming and crying, Avery saying, "Where's Wally?" Me sobbing, running down the stairs, Morgan running into her room and slamming the door, Avery following me repeating the same question over and over again, me getting to the kitchen with Wally and trying everything from pushing his little tummy and turning him upside down again to...yes...ferret mouth to mouth. Hey, you would too if your little buddy was in trouble. And I called Krystle so she would come back and help me, which she did, which was awesome because I was a MESS. More mouth to mouth and CPR...But, it didn't work. After 15-20 minutes of trying, all I could do was sob and wail for our little buddy who had met such a tragic end all because I wasn't there when he needed me. Apparently, I'm up for worst parent of the year award. Yeah, that one's all mine.

So...Krystle took the kids upstairs while I buried Wally outside, sobbing the whole way. It sucked. Badly. Poor little guy.

When I went back in, Krystle told me that Morgan thought I was mad at her...oh no! So I went in her room and she was crying, so I said, "Morgan, Mommy's not mad...she's SAD." To which, after a long pause and ceasing of crying she said, "Oh! Okay!" and smiled! Then I had to explain where Wally was and all that jazz. So here's how that conversation went:

Morgan, you know how we talked about God and baby Jesus living up in heaven and always watching over us?

Yup.

Well, God really really wanted a ferret. And He asked if Wally could please come live with him. Is that okay?

Sure!

But Morgan, that means that Wally can't come back here anymore. But he'll be very happy with God and Wally will make God very happy! Okay?

(Long pause with concerned look on her face...then her hands went out to the sides and she exclaimed with glee...)

We still have Fez!

Ah....to be 4.

So we did the most appropriate thing that we could think of...

We went out and got two new babies!

After much deliberation about their names, we decided on Bonnie (white girl) and Clyde (caramel boy). They are SO cute! Clyde is super laid back and cuddly. He barely moves! A total love! Bonnie, on the other hand, is CRAZY funny! She plays and jumps and runs and cavorts. Yes. Cavorts! Fez is cool with them and even sleeps with them. Even though I'm sure that he misses his brother, I hope that having some other furry tots to care for will give him some company! He can be a great big brother to them!

Here are some pics of the new babies:

One of Bonnie

One of Clyde

Cute, right?! The girls have been having a lot of fun initiating them into the family, and so far things seem good! But we will always miss Wally...what a good boy. Here are some somewhat blurry pictures of Avery loving on him. He was super sweet to the girls and always tolerated their love and hugs....and being put in the bouncy house!

And now for some random pictures from the last few days...

Below you will find master pedicurist Morgan - jacked her own foot up on the island to paint her toes pink! And actually, she did a pretty good job!

Last weekend this one got me up at 7 and she immediately wanted to go outside and swing! It wasn't cold. It was windy. In Avery world that requires a hat for her non-existant hair!

Last weekend was absolutely perfect. Seriously! We were outside ALL Sunday hanging out. Dan brought the Harley out back and the girls helped him clean it!

And then there's this...Beautician Avery! Don't ask. Yes. I was right there. I was getting ready for a school board meeting and she did her makeup ala watching mommy. But I think mine looked a tad better. Maybe.

Sometimes Avery likes to sit in the front seat. Especially when we drive the 50 feet to Hayden's house when it's cold! We go 5 mph and Avery thinks she's flying!

So...even though we lost Wally, and I still feel like utter poo because of it, things are okay. The new babies are bringing lots of joy and fun, and now, on a Friday night, I am so so looking forward to hanging out with the kids this weekend...hopefully to take more fun pictures and share with you all!

Phenomenal Weekend!

Oh my gosh!

Things couldn't be any better. We had friends visiting from PA...but they live in Chicago now, so they aren't too far away. The weather was beautiful and the kids were in super good moods! Well, for the most part! Avery was hysterical all weekend. What a crazy goof! She wound up naked all the time!

Here she is wearing Dan's socks and helping to clean up poop. Yup. She insists.

And then there are times like these when she feels the need to "go shopping." Whether it be at the store or at Target or to the gym....she's on her way somewhere!

And of course there are lots of babies! This one actually has clothes on which is a miracle! Here Avery is giving the baby a mut because she's crying!

Then she wakes up and does this...types and works forever! She's so destined for greatness!

And finally...here she is eating yummy food in Spongebob jammies that are two sizes too big for her, but that's okay because she's a total thug who wears her pants below her butt anyway!
